In 1516, the bay of Algiers was severely unprotected, and did not assist the brothers from fear of their growing influence. Aruj leads a revolt against the government and becomes rulers of the city. At this point Spain has bases on either side of them, so he goes to the Saltine for advice. Aruj is the Bey and Beyberleu of the Mediterranean and ruler of the Barbary coast. In this battle Aruj has control of 5k corsairs and 15 Turkish troops, fighting the Spanish force of 100,000. The Spanish break through after 3 weeks of battle and Aruj and Ishak are killed, but Hizir escapes. He takes over the ruling positions of Aruj and leads an army to victory over the Spanish. He retires in 1541 after raiding France/Spain and going on an excursion with the Saltine. His son takes over for him and the war against Spain lasts until 17th century.
