Susan and Elizabeth founded the Women’s State Temperance Society. They tried to have petition sent to the State legislature pass a law limiting the amount of liquor that could be bought. The petition was rejected do to majority of the signatures were from women and children. After that event Susan and Elizabeth resigned from the Women’s State Temperance Society because of all the criticism for talking about women's rights.
