American soldiers had to suffer in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. At one time, they had to go without bread for three days in the cruel winter. The army in Valley Forge represented some of the most pitiful of the American soldiers. They were without uniform and all wore ragged clothes. Many, around twenty eight thousand men, were barefoot or almost naked.
