This term is used to refer to the criticisms of the Spanish treatment of the natives. Their cruelty during their conquest and religious persecution gave the Spanish a bad image. The critiques were well deserved because the Aztecs and Incas were massacred by the Spanish guns during conquest. The Spanish were also extremely intolerant of the religions practiced by the Aztecs and the Incas. Although the Spanish did a great deal of killing the biggest killer was disease which wiped out a majority of those killed during this time period.
