Jamestown was the first permeant British Settlement in the Americas and it was founded in 1607. Jamestown was established by a Joint Stock Company called the Virginia Company of London. Some of the settlers of Jamestown settled there because they received nothing from their families because of primogeniture. The settlement was made entirely up of men and they established it with the goal of trading with Natives. In the first nine months 38 out of the original 120 died due to warfare, disease, famine, and laziness.
