Middle Passage
Descrição:
The usage of slave labor increased with the beginning of transatlantic trading like the South Atlantic system and the Columbian exchange. Colinists in the Americas and the Caribbeans began transporting more and more slaves from Africa. Their horrendous, dangerous journey is known as the Middle Passage. The conditions of the ships were horrible, and that caused an average of 20% of the travelers to die during their journey. On the ships there were also uprisings that led to more violence. After the Middle Passage, slavery in South America and the Caribbean’s increased massively and slave numbers in Chesapeake went from 700 in 1650 to 20,000 by 1700.
