The most recent presidential election in China saw the unanimous re-election of Xi Jingping. Jinping was also elected chairman of the Central Military commission, also with 100% of the vote, giving him direct control over 2 of China’s “3 sectors”, the government, the military, and the Party. Given that he is also the secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, Jinping now has almost unlimited control over the political landscape in China. Just days before the presidential election, Jinping passed a law abolishing the term limit, allowing Chinese presidents such as himself to rule for an unlimited number of terms. Arguably the most powerful man in China since Mao Zedong, Xi plans to use his position to root out corruption and create a more transparent government.
