CORE (The Congress of Racial Equality) organized a group that would ride the Greyhound and Trailway buses in an attempt to recreate the failed Freedom Riders from about 20 years before. The year before, Virginia made segregation legal on all interstate buses. The Freedom Riders went to Virginia to test them. Both buses were attacked with some passengers reciving only minor injuries.
