on this date Soviet cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov died when the parachute on his capsule failed and plummeted to the ground. Komarov became the first cosmonaut to fly in space more than once and also the first person to die on a space mission. Soyuz 1 was launched with a Sapwood SS-6 with a longer upper stage and weighed 14219.82 pounds.
