1066 CE - 1072 CE William of Normandy (also deemed William the Conqueror) launched an invasion of England after successfully crossing the English Channel. He defeated the English king Harold upon his first battle and marched toward London where he was then crowned. He faced minor rebellions, but managed to hold his control of the throne. His government followed the medieval feudal system, constructed many castles, and refined the English court. (3.2)
