1347 CE The Bubonic Plague, also known as “The Black Death,” had its first major outbreak in Europe, killing roughly one third of all Europeans. Its spread is caused by rodents carrying the deadly pathogen, which was further spread by Mongol conquest and trade. However, due to the increased demand for labor as people died, wages rose, which in turn led to European economic development. (3.3)
