The first colony in the United States was founded in 1607 near the Eastern side, and it became known as Jamestown, Virginia. Most of the people who settled in the New World came to Jamestown in attempt to follow their religion without being harassed. The Pilgrims arrived to Jamestown in early 1620. The impact of this led to the creation of the other colonies, making up the 13 colonies of America.
