Infant Look Duration
- infants shown basic geometric patterns, a still frame of a woman's face or a still frame from Sesame Street
- Examined developmental change from 3 - 12 months
- The time taken to look away becomes shorter as children age from 3 to 6 months
- This means that they are faster at encoding stimuli (due to being able to see better)
- Infants continue looking at Sesame Street stills for the longest amount of time because they are charged with socially
- duration increased for older children as they become more aware of social context
- Triphasic model: decreased pattern of look duration during the second period / the course of look duration in the third phase was stimulus dependent.
- Heart rate showed greater engagement with stimuli -> convergent behavioural & physiological evidence
