Descrição:

Developmental changes in visual short-term memory in infancy: evidence from eye-tracking
- Assessed visual short term memory in 6 & 8 month olds by tracking their gaze as they looked at a square in a new colour and an unchanged previously seen coloured square
- CHANGE DETECTION task
- Used classical music to maintain attention (common in eye-tracking procedure)
- 6-month-olds failed to respond to changes of item identities in these multiple-item arrays whereas 8-month-old infants did respond to those changes
- 8 month olds could individuate the items rather than storing the whole array as a representation
- 8 month olds indicated preferential looking within 500ms of presentation whereas 6 month olds showed no preference during the full 3000ms of the trial
- Experiment 2 looked to see if 6 month olds could detect change when the colour of both squares was the same in the sample array so they were only having to recognise one colour which then changed
- Preference displayed but still slower than the preference for 8 year olds in experiment 1
