The Mongolian conquests of China happened in 2 stages, the North and the South. The Northern conquests happened in 1220, after years of relentless raids and ransackings of villages and towns in the Jurchen region. The southern areas were taken over in 1276, after repeatedly attacking the weakened Song dynasty. After taking over, Khubilai claimed himself the leader and created the Yuan Dynasty. (3.1, 3.3)
