The Immigration Restriction League (IRL) was an organization created in 1894 by Harvard graduates Charles Warren, Robert DeCourcy Ward, and Prescott Farnsworth Hall (Harvard University Library Open Collections Program, n.d.). It was anti-immigration in nature, as the organization ascribed to the belief that many social problems of the time including poverty, crime, and crowding could be traced to large influxes of immigration. Southern and Eastern Europeans were inferior by nature and genes.
