- Information from the environment is held very briefly in sensory memory
- Then passed on to short-term memory
- Some of this then passes on to long-term memory
- BUT short term memory can't hold more than long term/ people can access LTM without STM/ stored knowledge must be accessed before information enters STM for us to comprehend it/ takes little account of non-verbal memory
