In the Belgian Revolution of 1830 the inhabitants of the southern provinces of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands rose against the hegemony of the northern provinces, mostly Protestant. In a few weeks of August and September the rebellion achieved the secession of Flanders and the Wallonia and the formation of Belgium.
