The first Ku Klux Klan, aka the KKK or the Klan, was founded. It was a white supremacist organization founded by six ex-Confederates in Pulaski, TN. The group began to expand, frequently engaging in violent attacks like lynching. They eventually broke apart in 1871 after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1871.
