Wilhelm Richard Wagner was born 22 May 1813 in Leipzig, Germany . He was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor. Wagner's life was characterized by political exile, love affairs, poverty and repeated flight from his creditors. He is famous for both his epic operas, including the four-part, 18-hour Ring Cycle, as well as for his anti-Semitic writings, which made him popular with Adolf Hitler.
