The date is the year it was made- The Indian Act was an act made for the purpose of being able to control First Nations. They wanted First Nations to transition to a more liberal society which they encouraged to do through leaving their Indian status to receive more rights. The First Nation culture was wrong to them and so they made attempts to assimilate it through this imposing of liberalism.
