This generation of computers first used integrated circuits (IC), which were invented by Jack Kilby. The integrated circuit contains transistors, capacitors, and resistors, which were able to fit into smaller computers. The third generation of computers had time-sharing, and multiprogramming operating systems, and remote processing were introduced.
