The first computer (February 15 1946) that was programmable was the ENIAC (electronic numerical integrator and computer). This was invented during World War 2, with John Mauchly and J. Presper Jr.. It was made for evaluating values for artillery range tables, along with making calculations for the creation of the nuclear bomb. The ENIAC worked with plugboards that plug directions that the computer followed, and it can take days to rewire the machine to make a new calculation.
