Barbara Strozzi was one of the most important woman composers of the 17th century, and an important composer of cantatas. This cantata features a through-composed structure with varying bits of recitative, arioso, and aria styles alternating throughout. Incorporates text painting, but notably with the use of new operatic techniques. Composed for solo voice and harpsichord accompaniment, both of which would add embellishments as desired.
