These acts, which were officially called the Coercive Acts, were made in order to punish the colony of Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. It also, however, made all of the territory that had been gained during the Seven Year's War become under control by Quebec. This enraged the colonists, and in May that year, they set up a meeting of twelve colonies to think about how they would react to these acts.
