Father Miguel Hidalgo issued a call of rebellion against Spanish authorities because he wanted better opportunities for the people in his village. This act caused the Mexican War of Independence. A few months after this rebellion began, Hidalgo was captured and executed for treason by the Spanish. But what he did inspired many people after him to gain their freedom.
