3 mar 1820 ano - The Missouri Compromise of 1820
Descrição:
Tensions over whether Missouri would be admitted to the Union as a free state or a slave state caused Congress to create a compromise. Thus, the Missouri Compromise was born, stating that Missouri was to be admitted as a slave state, but under the condition that every state north of the 36th parallel is to be admitted as a free state. Dividing the country into two separate divisions of free states and slave states amplified sectional tensions, and having an uneven amount of slave to free states angered the North, however admitting Maine as a free state shortly after evened out the tension.
