1 jan 1977 ano - Frederick Sanger: Rapid DNA Sequencing Techniques

Descrição:

Developments in molecular biology were being held back in the 1970's due to no easy and efficient way to read precise nucleotide sequences of DNA.

Through his work identifying free groups of amino acids in insulin for A. C. Chibnall, Frederick Sanger became the first scientist to order amino acids and obtain a protein sequence, which later won him a Nobel Prize. He hypothesized that if proteins were ordered molecules, the DNA that makes them up must be as well.

Later on in his career, DNA sequencing became a natural part of his work. He started off sequencing RNA, but the techniques soon became applicable to DNA as well.
