Description: The Articles of Confederation was the first written constitution of the United States. It encouraged a weak central government, fearing a strong central government would be too controlling and corrupt like Britain. However, the major weaknesses include the inability to repay debt, lack of a taxation system, poor military program, and in general being too weak to enforce laws.

Causes: Stemmed from wartime urgency due to the American Revolution(1775-1783)

Historical Impact: Would become a reminder of how not to run a national government.
