Descrição:
Ignatius of Loyola grew up in Spain and in 1521, he was injured in a war. While recovering he thought about his past sins and the life of Jesus. He believed that his daily devotions cleansed his soul and he began writing a book called Spiritual Exercises. The book was about daily plans of meditation and prayer. He slowly started to gain followers from his book and in 1540, the pope created a religious order for his followers. It was called the Society of Jesus and members were called Jesuits. This group founded schools throughout Europe converted non-Christians to Catholicism, sent out missionaries around the world, and tried to stop the spread of Protestantism. They overcame the drift of Protestantism in Poland and Germany. This was important because if it wasn’t for the Jesuits then Protestantism would’ve spread throughout the world.
