The Entertainment Software Board of Ratings (ESRB) was founded in 1994 due to recent graphic video games, specifically the infamously gory Mortal Kombat and Night Trap, a game with Full Motion Video that contained sexually suggestive content. Since then, they have continued to give ratings to games released in North America.
