The St Bartholomew’s Day Massacre occured in 1572 when many Huguenot nobles were attending the marriage of Catherine's daughter to a huguenot prince. Most of the nobles were killed sparking a nationwide slaughter of huguenots for the following six weeks. The event marked a turning point in france’s religious wars and once again reinforced protestant ideas that Catholicism was a bloody religion.
