The English Bill of Rights, passed in 1689, was the first case of a constitutional monarchy. In it was outlined some fundamental rights that the monarchs could not take away from the people. Because of this bill William and Mary were allowed back on to english soil and allowed to rule under the constitutional monarchy. Because of this document many other countries would come to adopt constitutions and guarantee more rights for their people.
