Frederick the Great was not seen as fit to rule by his father when he was young. Frederick liked some things that his father didn’t, such as music and philosophy. In 1730, Frederick and one of his friends tried to run away. They were caught, and Frederick’s father made him watch the beheading of his friend. Frederick II known as “Frederick the Great” ended up succeeding his father and his military policies. He differed from his father slightly because he encouraged religious toleration and legal reform. He believed that a ruler should be a father to his people.
