The Thirty years war was important to European history because of the violence and destruction it brought. The war was between European ruling families for religion and land. The war split Europe into small provinces and states causing chaos in the Holy Roman Empire. Many Protestants joined the fight so they could have religious choice and freedom from the pope. The thirty years war was the 1st time that the Catholic and Protestant religions clashes into a destructive war. This event marked the reformation and began to decrease the Catholic's drive to end the Reformation and convert Protestants back to Catholicism.
