On October 12th, 1492, Christopher Columbus and his men arrived in America, or more specifically the Caribbean Islands. Columbus’ arrival marked the first European presence in an otherwise undisturbed continent full of Native peoples. Columbus greatly impacted the development of America and the world because he initiated the Columbian exchange, started the European colonization of the Americas, and committed genocide of the Native Americans.
