Once his master started moving to free territory he met Harriet Robinson. He tried to buy his freedom and this failed so then he filed for it. This case got to the Supreme Court where they made the decision that he had to stay as a slave. They decided that a slave is just mere property which did not appeal to some. This caused the polarization of America to increase, by having the south challenge the territorial limitations.
