This Compromise consisted of five separate laws presented by Henry Clay and Daniel Webster and Stephen A. Douglas. The Compromise preserved national unity. This compromise kept the North and South appeased and the hate was lessened but the divide between the North and South was still growing. This Compromise helped push the United States toward the Civil War.
