Simon finds Sarah Lindwall, the last living member of the ARK team and last living human, hooked up to life support, guarding the ARK. The rest of the ARK team seems to have died slowly from illness, injury, or lack of food. (Pedersen had a change of heart before he died, telling the remaining team members that he was wrong about launching the ARK. He died clutching Catherine’s part of the group photo.)
