An Aquatint is a printmaking technique that uses etching. In order to accomplish this an artist creates marks on a plate that holds ink. The ink plate goes through a printing press with a piece of paper and the ink then transfers onto the paper. This was first developed by Jan van de Velde IV in 1650 in Amsterdam.
