Took place in Maryland. This was the first time that the COnfederacy invaded the Union. WHen the Union was able to repel the Confederacy, it prevented foreing aid to the Confederacy. Foreign powers realized that the Confederate side didn't have a chance. It caused Abraham Lincoln to write thte emancipation proclamatiokn.
