At 4:30 am at the dawn of April 12, 1861 the Confederates opened Fort Sumter. Fort Sumter was Union controlled but was located on Confederate territory in South Carolina. Was the start of the Civil War more state began to join the Confederates as well. Ended with Confederate Victory.
