Considered the end of the Italian Renaissance. Fear of another sacking, coupled with the pope's virtual imprisonment, compelled the pope not to grant England's King Henry VIII an annulment to his marriage with Catherine of Aragon, the Emperor's aunt. In doing so, the Pope pacified Charles V, and, incidentally, sparked the English Reformation.[
