Gothic architecture originated in France during the High and Late Middle Ages, and became the bridge between the architecture of the Romanesque and Renaissance periods.
Common characteristics of this style are higher ceilings and walls, rose windows, stained glass, and the use of realistic carvings on the outside of cathedrals to illustrate biblical stories.
