Agriculture was a significant step for colonies to establish a proper permanent hold in North America, as it gave the colony the ability to be self-sustaining and be able to grow without a large dependence on fur trading for survival.

Louis Hebert was given significance in New France as creating the first agricultural foothold in Quebec, something that the colonies had been struggling with since many of the immigrating colonists had little knowledge on the subject.
