Robespierre believes that there is no room for a king, so France put their own king to trial. In court they were deciding what punishment he should get. The Girondins wanted to spare the king's life even though they wanted to Republic but they're not sure if killing the king is necessary. They were outnumbered by the Jacobins, they wanted to kill the king because Robespierrre says that 'You have to kill the king so the revolution can live if the king is right then the revolution is wrong'. On January 20th Louis XVI is declared guilty. On the day of execution he tried to give a speech 'I trust that my death will be the happiness of my people but I grieve for France and I fear that she may suffer the anger of the law'. At 10:22 am the man who once was king is no more.
