Blackbeard is the most recognizable/popular pirate of our time. He is referred to as the Demon Captain. He was born near Bristol and highly educated. He was commissioned as a privateer in the Spanish Succession, and turned pirate in 1714 after the declaration of peace. He was a captain of the Queen's Revenge during the Spanish Succession, and never stayed in one spot too long. He eventually becomes the most respected and feared captain ever. He blockaded the Charleston Harbour and demanded a ransom, taking elite members of government. Ocracoke Island became his domain for a few reasons: there were large dunes, deep valleys, and many ways in and out. There is still thought to be buried treasure there.
