In an attempt to gain ground in Georgia, the Union Army under General William Rosecrans is defeated at Chickamauga in Georgia. They have been defeated by Confederate troops under Bragg and are forced to retreat back to Chattanooga in Tennessee, a clear Confederate victory has taken place.
