The start of centuries of servitude in the Atlantic Slave Trade. The new colonies in the Americas needed cheap human labor to work on the cocoa, sugar, cotton and tobacco plantations sprouting up in every settlement. Slaves were regarded as just another form of cargo, sent on ships from Africa as quickly and cheaply as possible.
