After the war ended, Harriet was not done yet. She earned money to help newly freed slaves, helped women and fought for women's rights and worked with Sarah Bradford on her autobiography for money. She continued her career in New York, helping the nursing home and after a fight for a pension, made a home for the aged near her home. She and her Union Soldier husband Nelson Davis also adopted a daughter. She died in 1913 and was buried Fort Hill Cemetery.
